Conference for Northern California Handweavers
I would like to announce my two workshops for CNCH (Conference for Northern California Handweavers) “Finding the Artist Within” to be held at the Hyatt Regency SFO in Burlingame, California, April 3-5 2020.
The two-day workshop is “Fabulous Nuno Felted Collars” and the one-day workshop is “Layered, Collaged, Stitched, and Felted”. Both classes still have openings, and are innovative and exciting workshops. Please see the descriptions and photos below. I hope to see you there! To register for workshops go to www.cnch.org
“FABULOUS NUNO FELTED COUTURE COLLAR”
Melissa’s 17 years of experience as a Professional Textile Artist for a Fashion Designer lends itself to a unique and interesting approach in creating “one of a kind” Nuno Felted Collars.
Collars are easier to wear and less bulky than scarves and can add that “Special” something to any garment, from casual to elegant, similar to a lovely piece of jewelry.
In this exciting Two-day class, some of the interesting design elements we will explore are “lace holes”, fabric manipulation, Nuno Dreads, and making a beautiful felted button. We will focus on what makes good design, fabric and color choices, and finishing details. I will have available for purchase, some of my hand dyed silk Shibori fabrics, hand dyed solid color silks, hand dyed wool roving and luxury fiber batts for you to work with for a truly one-of-a-kind “Couture” Collar.
LAYERED, COLLAGED, STITCHED, AND FELTED
In this Exciting and Innovative one day workshop we will explore the Many Creative Possibilities of Layering, Collaging, Stitching, and Felting. Working with merino wool, prefelt and assorted scraps of fabulous fabrics, we will play with the innovative design options we have when you layer wool and fabric together and free motion stitch thru it. We will make several collaged and stitched samples that will then be wet felted in class that will familiarize you with this exciting technique. You will need to have a working sewing machine that does free motion stitching, with the proper free motion foot attachment and some experience with free motion stitching and felting.
Melissa Arnold has been creating textiles for the last 35 years. She has been collaborating with Fashion Designer Catherine Bacon professionally for the last 17 years. She is a master dyer, felter and surface designer.
