I have been wandering through the field of textiles, and related creative fields for well over 40 years.

In 1990 my husband and I moved to Hawaii, while there, I learned Traditional Japanese Shibori techniques and indigo dyeing from Temari, a center for Asian Arts in Honolulu. I also worked at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum of Culture and Natural History in Honolulu in the field of Art Conservation for 10 years.

Hello to all my friends ….it’s been awhile sin Hello to all my friends ….it’s been awhile since I have posted anything here…I have been busy creating new work and all of a sudden it’s the end of January!

1-2 Bone beads covered with beautiful old Japanese papers (a gift from the late 90’s)

3-7,9….new collage work on paper and canvas with water colors, sumi ink, and persimmon tannin. Some with sticks and stones….

8….a stack of vintage silks dyed with avocado, onionskins, lac, madder, and cutch.

So pleased with my recent explorations with iron o So pleased with my recent explorations with iron oxides and different tannins… the first photo is a rayon/silk jacquard next to a Japanese lace paper… I’ve been experimenting with different papers and even an old rayon/silk obi (last photo)…I like the idea of creating a language through random mark making….

I’m in so much gratitude for this gift of papers I’m in so much gratitude for this gift of papers 19 years ago when I was working with an incredible paper conservator whose specialty was Japanese 6 panel folding screens…these papers were found inside the screen as it was dismounted…I loved them then as I do now and feel so fortunate to be able to use them in my new work…I believe they are from the early 1900’s…..

I have grown the most beautiful mold in the course I have grown the most beautiful mold in the course of the winter months in my dye studio this lovely agate like growth is on top of acorns that I boiled last November….
