Hello Everyone,
As you all know by now I am not the best at blogging…It seems that time has been moving so fast this year, and I have had so many things on my plate that I have been unable to keep up. I had a studio sale the first weekend in December here in Paradise, and I would like to thank all who made the effort to come. It was lovely to meet new people and see many old friends. It seems that the trunk show in Houston was a big success and I would like to Thank all of you who purchased my work there. I am honored that my work was so well recieved! I have new Photos up on the website from the photo shoot in Germany this September. I am very pleased, they are quite lovely! Thank you to Cailin Powell Photographer and Eva Duve Creel model for making this possible! It was wonderful to meet and work with you both.
I am teaching a 3 day workshop at the Tin Thimble in Loomis, California on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday January 27th, 28th and 29th. I taught this same work shop last year at the end of January. For those of you who do not know, the Tin Thimble is a delightful shop run by Sharon Mansfield and her daughters. It is located in the old fruit sheds at the Highhand Gallery. The Highhand Gallery is a wonderful Nursery , Resturaunt and Gallery, with a number of other shops in the fruit sheds. It’s an absolutley delightful place to go.
The workshop is called “an Alternative Approach to Nuno Felting” and is for beginners and nuno felt enthusiasts alike. We will create a number of samples learning the technique I developed that does not require rolling. Day 2 we will begin dyeing the samples, and on Day 3 we add a shibori overdye to the mix. If you go to the Tin Thimble website you can see Sharon’s samples of what we did last year. I approach this process from the prospective of a Textile Designer, always asking How can we manipulate the process to create a wonderful fabric? There are 4 slots left for this workshop. I am available to teach this workshop next year, if any of your groups are interested.
That will get my year off to a good start, but before that however, I will be designing some new textiles for Fall 2012 for the Designer I collaborate with. This year she has also asked us to do some One-of-a-Kind pieces for kimono. I am very excited about that prospect. I am also going to work up some new and interesting samples for the Tin Thimble workshop. I have signed up to take a workshop myself In July of next year from Jorie Johnson, An Extraordinary Felter from Japan. I have admired her work for years and look forward to learning some new techniques. I am very excited about doing this and being the student for a change!
The Solstice will soon be upon us next week, and Lena Stevens of The Power Path says ” A time to celebrate your life, your responsibility to yourself, your power, your talents, your purpose, your vitality, your inspiration. Make a list of everything that stands in the way of that and burn it with ceremony.” I read her monthly forecasts, which can be downloaded from her website www.thepowerpath.com I think of her forecasts as navigational maps for the soul, helping us to manuver through these times.
I wish all of you a Wonderful Wonderful Christmas Holiday and a very Happy New Year.
namaste,
melissa
